SA French secured the exclusive distributorship for Potain tower cranes in 1982 and opened its doors as a company dedicated to the sale of lifting solutions in South Africa. Potain was, and still is, the world’s leading tower crane manufacturer.
The company’s first site located in Wilbart, Johannesburg housed both its sales and service facilities in a 50 m² warehouse. Today SA French operates from a 5000 m² facility in Spartan.
Between 1986 and 1998, the company diversified its product range to include a wider selection of lifting and moving solutions. Distributorship agreement were concluded with leading European manufacturers such as Merlo, Conquip and Torgar and the wider product range includes access platforms, hoists, mixers and dumpers. The market offering positioned the company well to service the South African construction sector during the urban regeneration in the late 1980s.
Today tower cranes make up the majority of SA French’s business with market demand consistently outstripping availability. |
